Kansas City Woodworking Tool Show Highlights

The DIY Tool Show in Kansas City, really Overland Park Kansas, as always was well attended although several of our guild members thought it was not as well attended as years past.   Even with that said, it is always good to see so many interested in learning  from experts on how they do a certain woodworking process or techniques.  This was my first year for doing a demo on How To Cut the Staves for a segmented bowl.   Thanks to Larry Bowden of ITSI for allowing me to use one of his SawStops for my demonstrations.  The saw performed beautifully and I hope to someday own one.   Several people thanked me for showing the staved bowl making process.

We had the opportunity to meet the new TV woodworking star of Rough Cut, Tommy MacDonald.  He really knows his woodworking and is very approachable and full of energy.  I was especially happy to see how interacted with younger first-time woodworkers.  A new TV superstar to take Norm Abraman and David Mark place is exactly what are hobby needs if we are to keep woodworking a live and well future generations.  Thanks Tommy for taking the time to visit the Lee’s Summit Woodworkers Guild booth, and signing autographs of Fine Woodworking for all of us.

I entered a project in the Show Off Competition and my walnut and maple tool box took 3rd place.  There was a tie for first place after 3 days of voting.  Thanks to all who voted no matter what project you voted as your first choice.

The photos below were taken during the show.
